A Loire cycling holiday
La Loire à Vélo – bicycle holiday
Visit the Loire the slow way – cycling it with friends and family. The cycle paths of Loire à Vélo will provide a leisurely trip along this majestic river. Relax, enjoy the scenery, typical towns and the authentic French atmosphere. Hop on, hop off, there is so much to see and discover!
A typical cycling holiday will take you downstream in stretches of 25 to 50 km per day, leaving plenty of time for sightseeing too. All routes are well sign posted and are suitable for beginners and children too. Most routes follow the river, being the lowest point of the region of course. The slopes of the river where the vineyards are, may require a bit of climbing but never more than 1 or 2 on a scale of 5.
The stretch between Tours and Angers is the most popular one, with a concentration of sites, hotels and restaurants between Chinon and Gennes. Fontevraud is right in the heart of this ! La Loire à Vélo has created a special detour for the town of Fontevraud and its world famous abbey.
We will be delighted to extend a warm welcome, we can help in planning your itinerary or arrange luggage transfers, pic-nics and yes, maybe a puncture or a relaxing massage. After a day of cycling you’ll appreciate our pool, enjoy a drink on our flowered terrace or dine at leisure in our informal restaurant. After a good night’s sleep you are ready to hop on your bike again!
Some guests cycle all the way from the Atlantic to the Black sea as cycle paths are interconnected (Eurovelo 6) but just a couple of days of cycling will give you a good idea of what the Loire by bike is all about!
