Hotel La Croix Blanche, also know as Hostellerie La Croix Blanche, has been transformed from a historic coaching inn dating back to 1696 to a charming three star Logis hotel with comfortable rooms, an informal yet high quality restaurant, an outdoor pool as well as a cosy bar-lounge. In summer hotel La Croix Blanche will delight you with hundreds of pink geraniums which compliment the tufa stone buildings and the slate roofs.
The hotel consists of three character buildings with many historic features, set around a flowered court yard in the heart of a charming town in the Western Loire Valley. We are proud to be independantly owned. Logis has awarded us 3 ‘chimneys’ for excellent accommodation and three ‘saucepans’ for creative French cuisine featuring many local specialities.
For over 300 years the historic ‘auberge’ has been welcoming visitors and pilgrims to the Royal Abbey alike. The majestic ‘Abbaye de Fontevraud’, right opposite the hotel, is an exquisite example of local architecture.
Hidden secrets, some dating back to the year 900, include much history of the Plantagenêt royal family – delightful effigies of queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, king Henry II and their son Richard the Lionheart can be found inside the abbey church-, the prison, and the gardens. If you are lucky you may even be able attend a concert or an event!
